Michael Conrad Obituary

GASTONIA - Michael Glenn Conrad died January 2, 2019 at Robin Johnson House.

He was born October 3, 1946 in Gastonia, son of the late Roland E. Conrad and Bertie S. Conrad.

Mike graduated from Ashley High School in 1964 and attended Gaston College. In July 1968 he and

Becky married. Several months later, Mike was drafted and served in Vietnam with the 101 st Airborne

Division from May 1969 to April 1970. Returning home, he resumed his position at Public Service

Company (PSNC Energy/SCANA). He retired from the company after forty-six years of service.

Mike quietly served others, especially through his church home of fifty years, First United Methodist

Church: UMYF Counselor, youth and adult mission trips, theater, Salvation ArmyBreakfast team, Camp

Sunshine, Meals on Wheels and several church boards.

Mike loved to travel and enjoyed many trips and adventures with his family and with his friends. His

pride and joy were his children and grandchildren; he loved each one unconditionally.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roland E. Conrad, Jr. He is survived by his

wife of fifty years, Rebecca Dilling Conrad, his sons: Jason M. Conrad and his wife Jamie, Peter G. Conrad

and his wife Jennifer, his grandchildren: Hannah, Will, Ryan and Colby.

His service will be at First United Methodist Church, 190 East Franklin Boulevard, Gastonia, NC 28052 of

Gastonia at 2:00 on Saturday, January 5th with visitation after the service in the Family Life Center.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, PO Box 218, Gastonia, NC

28053 or to Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.

MIke and I worked together at PSNC.  He was a super guy.  Our prayers are with Becky and her family.  Mike will be greatly missed.  God give comfort to the family.

mike conrad was one of a few classmates i admired & respected - mike was a cool guy -  i did not know mike was drafted but then volunteered to go "airborne" and serving with the best in VN - 101st airborne was americas best combat team - i know b/c i was there 1967-1968 - airborne ranger special forces LRP - atta boy mike -
