James Ernest Givens

Mr. James E. "Jim" Givens; 77, of Lowell, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 12, 2022 at CaroMont Health, in Gastonia, N. C.; surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, at a location to be decided in the future.

Jim was born on November 19 1944 to the late Ernest A. Givens, and the late Clara Ophelia Fletcher Givens. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Ruby Givens Hudson. Jim has three surviving brothers: Charles A. "Chuck" and wife, Jamie, Kenneth M. "Ken" and Robert D. and wife Debbie. In addition to many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a longtime resident of Gastonia, N. C. He was also a faithful member of Loray Baptist Church; and other Baptist churches in the Gastonia, N. C. area.

Jim graduated in 1964 from Frank L Ashley High School, in Gastonia, NC.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Army, during the Viet Nam era; and received an honorable discharge. He was also a member of American Legion post 23 in Gastonia, NC.

Jim pursued various careers, prior to his retirement; excelling in all of them. He was employed by Southern Life Insurance Co., in Greensboro, NC and Kentucky Central Insurance Company, in Lexington, Kentucky. Jim held various positions including Sales Representative, Sales Manager, and Divisional Field Trainer; and earned many awards throughout his insurance career. Jim liked a challenge, and pursued other careers.

Jim did a lot of volunteer work with various organizations, and churches. He spent many Thanksgivings and other holidays; working in soup kitchens, and shelters; helping to feed the homeless and underprivileged.

Jim loved the Lord; and enjoyed sharing his faith with others.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at CaroMont Health for their excellent care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mount Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mount Harmony Church Rd., Matthews, NC 28105.

Remember the days at school and at Loray growing up. Good times we had and one day we all will again have that reunion.  Rest is peace my friend James.
