In Memory

Robert Eugene Blake

Robert Eugene Blake, 75, of Gastonia passed away February 18, 2021 at Peak Resources Nursing Home. He was born January 16, 1946 in Gaston County, a son of the late Marion Daniel Blake and Dorothy Tweed Blake.

Robert will be remembered for being a caring supportive father and loving husband. He was the "glue" for the family and had a remarkable sense of humor. Robert was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church for over 30 years. Annual beach vacations with the family was something he looked forward to. He was insistent each year that the family visit Magic Kingdom Amusement Park and Romando's Italian Restaurant. Drag racing, classic cars, Black's BBQ and attending car shows were just several of Robert's favorite things in life. When he was young, Robert served in the US Navy and in 1971, he went to work as manager of S & G Furniture and retired after 30 years.

Robert's survivors include his daughter, Lora Blake Ramsey (Greg); son, Robert Eugene Blake, Jr. (Stacey); grandchildren, Dare and Ellery Blake, Megan Ramsey (Philip Hoffman) and Chelsea Venable (Clay); great-grandchild, Grayson Venable and niece, Sonya Cain (Matt).

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn Ann Blake, and brother, Larry Blake.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church, 701 Littlejohn St, Gastonia, NC. A Celebration of life will be at Temple Baptist Church at 2pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 with Pastor Scott Whitener officiating. Entombment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC.

I have known Eugene since junior high school at South Gastonia. Always had a smile on his face. Was a cousin of Steve Mullinax and worked at the furniture store for a very long time. We wil miss you.

When the bandfront and band made all those bus trips to football games, parades, or other venues, Eugene made those trips more fun.  As I recall, Eugene never met a joke he couldn’t tell or a one liner he couldn’t say.  He was such a happy guy.  My memories of him make me smile.
