With a heavy heart I am letting class mates know that Nancy Kay Hunter, art teacher at Ashley High, passed away December 26 at age 73.  She had been in failing health for about a month, I'm told.  She and I kept our friendship alive all these years. She taught her first year at Wray Jr. High, then moved to Ashley for the 63-64 school year.  I took her class as an elective and our friendship continued for these last 50 years. As our class graduated,  she got married and moved to Aiken SC.  She would come to Gastonia to eat lunch with me at Black's BBQ. She would drive that far just for the slaw. She was thrilled to attend our class reunion in June. Although I was not able to attend she included me in the festivities by sending me a CD of every celebration that weekend. We had a good, long friendship. I will miss her.

David and I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We will be back in Gastonia this coming weekend due to my Mom's knee surgery.  We'll all be eating a barbecue or two from Black's.  We enjoyed seeing so many of you at the class reunion and was sorry that we missed some at all the wonderfully planned events.  Thanks to all who made it possible.  David and Maureen Fisher

I was raised on the same mill hill as Paul. I lived one street over from him. He lived on S. Liberty St.; and I lived on S. Weldon St. We were friends ever since we were kids. We went to elementary school, junior high, and of course Ashley. We played many outdoor sports together; at Todd Field,Optimist Field, Ferguson Field, and others. We played together (mostly football) in a big field that we called " The Hollow" at the corner of W. 2nd Ave. and Hill street. We played Monopoly and other board games in each others homes; when the weather was too bad to play outside.

Believe it or not, Paul was a very shy and reserved person, when we were growing up. He was always a gentleman, and very humble. I lost contact with him when I joined the Marine Corps in 1967; but I was very proud of him for all of his accomplishments.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family; during this difficult time.

I notice the old on ramp to I-85 is closed. You can see it in winter as you approach New Hope road from the east. Memories of where that ramp took me over time came pouring out one day. It dawned on me that many of you may have started a journey down  that ramp.

My big one was my then girl friend and her father taking me to the Charlotte airport to start my journey to Vietnam..

I invite you to post your memories if you  wish. I'm not sure this is an appropriate site for this but if someome can post something about their mohter's car overheating then its probably ok.
