I'd like to recommend to anyone who appreciates the group who "defined our generation": The Mamas and the Papas" - that they try to get one of the few remaining tickets until August 9th -  and see "Dream A Little Dream" at The Actor's Theater Of Charlotte.  A spiritual experience.

Bill, you may be about the youngest of our class, but you're still about the strongest.  After Johnny Mack patted your slightly larger than high school stomach following our spectacular reunion celebration on Saturday night, you proudly flexed your biceps and began hefting Don Allred's large, heavy loudspeakers over your head as if they were cotton candy... shouting how strong you still are to our advanced age!  I struggled lugging those loudspeakers out to Don's vehicle in the parking lot after you performed you awe-inspiring feats of strength beside the dance floor then walked away from the real work.  Also, you swept my sweet wife off her feet with your great sense of humor.  The photo of you two posing together with huge smiles for the camera is still in my iPhone to remind me of our lifelong great friendship.  No wonder Peggy has been willing to keep you for so long... strong and funny, a great combo.  Happy Birthday, Big Guy!  Best, Charlie Z.

I am eating this up. It's been a while since we have all communicated, now we are viral. Love to all. P.S. Johnny Mack will be the oldest classmate Nov. 4th. Let's hear something for him.

Bill, you're too funny!!!  And, Johnny was one of the first to get his driver's license! We couldn't wait to ride in his little VW Bug!

Ironically, none of us wants to be the first one to do anything anymore!!! My, how the tides turn!!!

Johnny Mack has usually been more mature and suave than most of his male pals in our class.  Now we remember why... he's the oldest of our gang.  He's always been a car guy and now takes special care of his really nice red hot sports car.  There was a time back in high school when he was showing off how fast he could drive a pristine Oldsmobile his dad had loaned him for a big dance evening.  It was a double date with pre-driver's license yours truly in the back seat being so impressed with Johnny's skill taking curves at high speed... he said we got up to about 80 at one point (thankfully, not in a curve).  When we got to the dance, he exclaimed "uh oh, the parking brake has been on for the entire ride!"  The burning brake sure didn't seem to slow him down much back then, and he's still running ahead of the pack... including in the refined old age department.   Happy Birtday soon, Johnny, from your lifelong pal, Charlie Z.

With a heavy heart I am letting class mates know that Nancy Kay Hunter, art teacher at Ashley High, passed away December 26 at age 73.  She had been in failing health for about a month, I'm told.  She and I kept our friendship alive all these years. She taught her first year at Wray Jr. High, then moved to Ashley for the 63-64 school year.  I took her class as an elective and our friendship continued for these last 50 years. As our class graduated,  she got married and moved to Aiken SC.  She would come to Gastonia to eat lunch with me at Black's BBQ. She would drive that far just for the slaw. She was thrilled to attend our class reunion in June. Although I was not able to attend she included me in the festivities by sending me a CD of every celebration that weekend. We had a good, long friendship. I will miss her.

David and I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We will be back in Gastonia this coming weekend due to my Mom's knee surgery.  We'll all be eating a barbecue or two from Black's.  We enjoyed seeing so many of you at the class reunion and was sorry that we missed some at all the wonderfully planned events.  Thanks to all who made it possible.  David and Maureen Fisher
