Thanks to all of you that had a part in putting together a wonderful weekend. I agree with my classmates that it was great to see and  talk to many of you with the only regret that more were not there. I do think that more should get involved for the next reunion, hopefully in five years or less because we seem to be leaving at an alarming rate. Personally I pledge to be involved with the next get together and look forward to it. Miss Lou had a super time, she knew so many of you and anticipates another meeting. She has graciously agreed to marry me, and my blessings just continue to come as she has certainly scraped the crust off this old barnacle. I hope to keep up with many of you on facebook and other venues in the coming months and years. I think we graduated with the best people in the world, so until we meet again, GLYASDI......God Loves You and so do I....lamar

Beverly Norris Rupp provided the following poem she wrote after the reunion.  Nice job Beverly!

ODE TO THE ASHLEY REUNION COMMITTEE AND CLASS of 1964

Nervous 'bout that Reunion

Didn't know what to expect......

Threw on a pair of shorts,

And said "Oh what the heck"!!

We drove to Rankin Lake,

A good friend took me there.....

Must have been 200 cars,

Such excitement in the air!!

What a scene so uplifting,

That lake dazzling like tinsels.....

Old friends' faces everywhere,

Should have brought my watercolor pencils!!

Our classmates kept arriving,

The smell of barbecue was lurking.....

But the Ashley Reunion committee,

My Gosh, they just kept on working!!

The soire wasn't over,

We drove toward Robinwood Lane.....

Continued to party like old times,

Hope we didn't drive the hostess insane!!

Had to get up early,

To the Ashley tour we did roam.....

Think I saw my monitor hall,

They'd turned it into a home!!

Saturday was our big day,

We'd feast and have a little drink.....

We'd hug and talk our heads off,

Might be the last time but I don't think!!

Sunday the service was touching.

Look! There's the committee so true blue....

It would be hard to sing those sad hymns,

Without shedding a tear or two!!

To all of you who missed it,

Let me tell you what I can.......

Wasn't important if you were successful,

But that you were loved by your fellow man!!

Hi, Everyone.  I am sooooo sorry I missed the weekend of the reunion. My "grand"daughter was confirmed into the Methodist Church that weekend in Durham and I had to go. No one could make me miss that. The reunion recap sounds like we need to do it again real soon. Why wait five years?  The pictures look great.   Let me know when there is another lunch date. I will be sure to attend.   Marsha Musard McLamb

Beverly, your heartfelt poem captured the essense of our special times together.  It's not an exaggeration to say we had a Class of 1964 collective epiphany... so much appreciation and care for one another, and a lot of bonding... truly life-changing in many cases.  Thanks to you, we now have something special to jog our old memories 20 years from now, when our 50th reunion will still deserve to be recognized as one of the best week-ends of our lives.  Best, Charlie Zeigler

Ken, thanks for going to so much trouble to take so many great photographs and to label them carefully for all of us.  Can't imagine our big family ever being happier together than at our 50th reunion, but let's all get happy together again in five years at our 55th.  Hope you'll bring your camera then.  It would be fun to set up some periodic lunches or dinners in the meantime which can be advertised on our website... maybe with some Ken Hayes photos to encourage others to come.   Best, Charlie Zeigler

It was the best reunion we have ever had.  The committe did a wonderful job and it was very obvious that a lot of work went into the preparations.  Also thank you Beverly for the terrific poem and Kenny for all the pictures.  Everyone seemed to have a  terrific time, even those that weren't in our class!  There was so much warmth and caring.  People really seemed excited to see each other and share their stories.  It reminded me of how important all of those "old friendships" could be and how good it felt to reconnect.  It was a weekend to remember.  Can't wait for the next time!!

Victory/Robinson, Arliington, Wray, Grier, South Gastonia, St. Michaels ....

Are there groups from these schools meeting informally (maybe monthly) for breakfast in/near Gastonia or where you live?
