Great Job, Bill, most of that story is new information to me, and I am anticipating the tour of the Ashley Arms. The history was very interesting, but I enjoyed most hearing that you found Peach's name on a closet wall. As a sophmore, I was privileged to be in the same history class with many upper classmen, and Peach sat right beside me. What a wonderful personality, and more fun than we should have had in class.                               Now I am sure Mr Smith was a visionary, and it was great for all concerned that he had the resources to bring that fabulous building back to life, but I would be in remiss if I didn't bring to the surface the fact that he definitely found the right Architect to accomplish that tremendous job. In addition to the skills, knowledge, and great talent to bring to the table I know the genuine sentiment and love you have for that old instutution. It might have been Mr White's creation, but in my opinion it is now your masterpiece. Thanks again, Buddy, and Lou and I are looking forward to seeing you and Judy on the June weekend......till later, lamar

Bill,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this history.  Thanks for posting as most of us probably didn't know these details. I attached on my profile a picture of our graduation announcement which featured the front facade of Ashley.

Bill Curry, thank you so very much for the detailed history on our high school! I so enjoyed reading about all of this rich history which I never knew! Tried to picture in my mind some of the areas you spoke about but have forgotten more than I thought I had. Now I am really looking forward to touring the building once again with a different perspective.

Looking forward to seeing you and everyone in June at our spectacular 50th reunion!!!

Thanks, Bill. I really enjoyed reading the history and the update about Ashley. I'm so happy that the 3 schools I attended are still standing...Central Elementary, Wray Jr. High, & Ashley. I hope they all continue to survive the changing times. So much history as too, the architectural designs. (Eddie)

Bill, a debt of gratitude to you, Hugh White and Mr. C. W. Smith.  Each made his mark and contribution to the building and preservation of this beautiful historic landmark.  Bill, kudos to you for your many years of love on this grand project.  There is sure to be a feeling of pride for all students who attended Ashley.  It was such a great part of our youth and life.  Look forward to seeing you this June.

Bill, thanks for sharing that history with us. The building does remain a majestic  landmark.

In case anyone might be interested in - Ashley -  GHS memorabilia:  At St. Michael's thrift store on 321 south there was -  and might still be available - a set of four unified auditorium seats for $100.

So it is April 1 already......I was looking forward to the luncheon today, and I am coming to the Charlotte AutoFair that starts Thursday. I thought it would be no trouble in getting there a couple of days early but yesterday I had a conflict that has delayed my leaving until tomorrow. So sadly I will have to wait until June to see many of your smiling faces. Have a wonderful time, ya'll.

Fellow Classmates:  Looking forward to seeing so many "old" , but familiar and dear friends for our upcomning renunion!  Just wanted to let everyone know that we will have a table outside the dining area at the convention center dedicated to "memorabilia" from our time at Ashley.  Please feel free to bring anything that you would like to share: Spinner's, Fine Yarns, the Rhetoric, cap/gowns, pictures (I have a few!), band/chorus items, letter jackets/sweaters (do schools still do these?! smiley), etc.  During dinner we are planning to show a dvd compilation of some of our history in '63-'64.

Hope to see you soon!  Be blessed!

Dave,

I won't be able to make this reunion, unfortunately. It sounds like it will be quite an event. I would be very interested in a copy of the DVD you plan to show if  you can make a copy. Let me know where to send the check. Thank.s

I would encourage everyone to watch the new show, THE SIXTIES, on CNN if you would like some nostalgia. I watched the first show and was enthralled.

I spoke to Tommy Weyant's wife just now, he has had 5 strokes and is blind in one eye. He was a good friend to many of us and actually came to one of our reunions though he graduated in 1965. I plan to go see him in Palm Coast, Fla. soon. Just wanted to give those who knew him a heads up. We need to be thankful for our  blessings and good health.

The reunion was fantastic! Both Bob and I enjoyed it, and I found it great to see so many "old" friends (pun intended). Again, thanks to the reunion committee for doing such a wonderful job and working so hard to organize it.

I want to commend John Mack and his team for putting together a great website.  I invite you to visit the class of 1963 website also and visit with many of the friends you may remember from high school.

Your class did a great job on its reunion.  I hope you will use the Class Forum to keep each other informed during the coming years.  Congratulations to the entire class of 1964.

Gene
